IAN MCCALL TALKS LATEST INJURY WHICH FORCED HIM OFF UFC FIGHT NIGHT 73
Ian McCall was slated to combat Dustin Ortiz at UFC Fight Night 73 but unfortunately had to pull out due to injury. McCall (13-5) caught up with MMAOddsBreaker on Episode 115 of The Parting Shot Podcast this Sunday to talk about his most recent injury. Injury that forced him out of Dustin Ortiz fight at UFC Fight Night 73″I have a tear in my shoulder, in my labrum and a tear in my bicep. I mean I am literally at the physicians now talking about it. It’s exactly what it is, we train hard and I’m fragile apparently. I must pull out of a good deal of s**t. It sucks, but when you train as hard as I do and you’ve been doing this as long as I do, its part of the game.” Career Plagued with Injuries”My UFC career was just been plagued with accidents and it is frustrating. This is my main source of income, I still have other things I do however, that is my principal source. I have a little girl to feed, I feed my own and it stinks. However, on another note, this is my passion; this is what I really like to do. I’m 31 years old, I am not getting younger I have been in fights for 13 decades. To watch my body neglect me time and time again it’s hard. It is one of those things it makes you wonder a good deal. I am such a healthy person, my loved ones is like incredibly healthy, and you know my daughter has to have a really strict diet. I’ve had my hip, groin tear, that can be bad. I’m sure I will have to get a hip replacement . I have had three hand surgeries. I got into an automobile accident not long ago and messed up my shoulder. It is always something, but it’s better than having a real job.” Getting Positive and Optimistic”A lot of my life I’ve been a pessimist to be honest. I look at it in various ways, it might be worse, I might be dead. I could have lost full use of my arm or whatever. There are a lot of things I look at. I must keep a positive attitude because I must be a fantastic role model for team-mates along with my child. It is one of these things I’m not going to sit around and sulk. That’s what it is, I’ll be al right.” Ideas on Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson II at UFC 191″Demetrious is ever evolving and I think that now he’s discovered a little more power in his punches. His entire game is always changing and becoming better. I think he’ll beat Dodson, is he likely to complete [him]? I don’t understand. I believe this is one man he will have difficulty completing. He ended Horoguchi with one minute left, as much as I wish to beat his face , he is incredible. He is the precise guy you want as winner in regards to performance. I’m going to go with him this one for certain.” Loss to John Lineker”Oh man which has been huge. I got overly emotional; I showed the very first round I could definitely overcome him. People were like’Oh he is a bantamweight’ I don’t care; the man still isn’t very good I must have overcome him. I think I showed that you’re not going to knock me out even though you’re a big puncher. My face is going to split open until you knock me out and that is exactly what happened. With me it’s outside matters, they always distract me, woman issues or what have you. I just kind of fell apart after that first round. I am smart enough to know that I was going to drop that fight sitting backstage. Anthony Kiedis and Dane White came around and said hello and I’m just kind of like, I am screwed. That was a psychological thing, that has always been my biggest downfall. I have a new mental coach, he is my mind Sherpa. He’s overall made me a better person. So far as goes, he is a large part of it” Feeling Overlooked in Flyweight Division”I would not say overlooked, there’s other folks to discuss. I blew it with John; I screwed up in that struggle. So maybe I don’t deserve to be talked about it. Let us say this harm is 6 months, they will talk about me after that, that is alright. You can find other people that deserve it. Regardless of how good I could be or how good I am, it’s not my turn. DJ needs people to struggle, the division needs people to shake and move and make a big jolt. I do not mind it, it’s cool, anything.” Raising a daughter as one father”Yeah it’s not easy; realistically I do not know anything about girls. I know how to get one in bed that’s about it. I sit there sometimes and stare at her like’what’s happening?’ Do not cut your own hair, do not put soap in places, like I don’t understand. Realistically I have a lot aid, I live together with my father. My father got a divorce, he explained proceed in, and I will assist you. My daddy’s retired so he sort of plays mother on a daily basis. My step mom is still about; my kid’s grandma is around so that I do have a great deal of help. So I’m not going to say I’m doing this alone, because I’m not. It requires a village to raise a baby and I got a village of people around me. Even though there are times where I have to take her into the gym, there’s always some one there. She’s pretty damn independent I will take her to the beach; she can run around and swim on her own. She’s going to be fine.” UFC Reebok Uniforms”I’d like to work for a fashion design company; the sole real fighters I hang out with are people I’m forced to hang out with or my friends. I hang out with artists, fashion designers, artists and musicians and stuff. They’re hideous, like Jose Aldo said we seem like f***kin Power Rangers. The equipment is actually comfy; obviously Reebok makes a great item. I don’t know who left the design, regardless of what generation we are in 80’s 90’s, that doesn’t match anything, it is just awful. But perhaps I am wrong; perhaps I am searching for something a little cooler looking. Its performance based gear; that’s all that matters. It is an evolution of the sport. We wanted it to excel, sure we’re not going to have paid that much cash but it is what it is. In case you have a issue then quit, these are the amounts we have to deal with. If you’re smart and you can market yourself and advertise yourself in ways like I have. I have outside patrons; I have Layrite, that is like a hair and mustache product. I’ve got a lot of clothing and lifestyle companies. I get a lot of exposure from materials like that. People today need to know to step outside the box, make money for themselves and have a smart agent” Thoughts on Reebok Deal”Yeah that would have been fine, but at exactly the exact same time they operate a business. They run a multi-billion dollar corporation that is a premiere sports league. If you find the machine which is your UFC, in the inside it’s outstanding. The people are excellent; the business design is simply amazing. I wouldn’t ever say anything bad about the way that it’s all operate, it’s amazing if you enjoy company. The thing is that they did not need to consult with us because it’s their business. We are a commodity; as far as I wish to say trendy we ought to be making money like baseball, football and basketball. Since we ought to we’re really putting our lives on the line. But we’re not and I do not wish to estimate Urijah Faber, he said’I never got into this for the cash’ honestly I catch it, I am a businessman.” Outside patrons”Financially I’m going to be ok. I’m always going to find methods [to make money]. I own part of a social media company, I have a series that I host called Direct Endorsement, also it’s a significant charity thing. I have other stuff that’s going to make me money, therefore I will be fine. I really do feel for guys that don’t have much else or men that are not that smart. But that’s their own fault, figure out it it’s not rocket science.” Being on Joe Rogan’s”Fight Companion” series”Yeah I was speaking to Joe not too long ago. I’ve a growing friendship with Joe for quite a while, we always talk about it but it is a little bit of a drive out of my house with all the visitors. I’ll be up there soon, I must do some stuff in the region so that I’ll be on there soon.” You follow Ian on Twitter @Unclecreepymma along with his host DirectEndorcements.com.
