Padres vs. Phillies MLB Pick – August 17th

The resurgence of Bryce Harper was on display again last night, as he blasted another critical home run from the park. Together with the Padres pulling inside 2 in that which was a 5-0 match, Harper put the match out of reach with a 3-run shot into the seats. The Padres tacked to a late rush to ensure it is an 8-4 match, though that was for a comeback bid from them. It turned out to be a big win for the Phillies after crossing the Cubs in 3 matches. There was a concern that the Phillies could have a hangover, but that was immediately put to rest on Friday night in Citizens Bank Park. They seem determined to reach the postseason and have done themselves some favors in that respect lately. The Brewers, Mets, and Cubs all missing, so that will help them out in the NL wildcard race. Catching the Braves appears next to impossible in a 7-game hole at the NL East. But, keep playing like that and winning the Wild Card Game looks like a real chance. The run has been spurred by a hot run by Bryce Harper at the plate. It wasn’t a secret that the Phillies wanted him to get going for the Phillies to have a shot. In addition to Harper moving the bat , the Philadelphia bullpen might need to continue producing down the stretch as well. There are a good deal of teams who are on pins and needles whenever they choose a slender lead in the 8th and 9th innings of matches. The Phillies lately obtained Jared Hughes away waivers to assist their bullpen a little. With all of the injuries that the relievers have suffered to get the Phillies, they have been trying to add a new arm with Zach Eflin being inserted back into the starting rotation. Eflin will find the nod tonight to get his first start since July 27th from the Braves. He was getting punished on the bulge and has been demoted to the bullpen after that effort. Eflin was pitching well in the bullpen, but they want him to pitch well in the spinning. The Padres will counter with sophomore Dinelson Lamet as their beginning hurler Saturday night. Head below for our free Padres vs. Phillies pick. Betting odds supplied by The Phillies were abandoned having a couple of options using Zach Eflin. Either send him down to the minors and figure it off or out to the bullpen. They moved with option B plus it seemed to payoff. Even the Phillies’ bullpen desired thickness, therefore it made sense to allow Eflin to throw from their bullpen. Back in 5.2 innings as a reliever, in his four latest appearances, Eflin was solid having allowed only 3 hits and 1-run during that stretch. This was after that he was getting drilled at a starting role. Before getting demoted to the bullpen, Eflin was hit for a 11.37 ERA and 2.05 WHIP in 3 starts resulting in his stay in the pencil. He had enabled 19 earned runs in 15.2 innings of play prior to trying out as a reliever. I wouldn’t be surprised to find that the Padres bothersome Eflin within his return to the starting rotation. Having said this, with the Phillies swinging a hot bat, Eflin is probably going to find loads of run service on Saturday. The Phillies have scored 26 runs in their past three games. Bryce Harper combined for 10 RBI’s in these three matches. Dating back to August 9th, Harper has 16 RBI’s since that point. Lamet has certainly played in seven outings, as he enters with a 3.86 ERA in his second season as a major leaguer. This looks like a tricky matchup contrary to the Portuguese Phillies, however. Philadelphia are destroying the ball and there haven’t been any signs that they are slowing down. The last score should get into the double digits, therefore the OVER seems like it is well worth a look.
